WHAT IS MOULD?
Mould falls into the fungi family and can be present in both outdoor and indoor environments. The growth of mould is a result of wet or poorly ventilated areas, which have sufficient moisture and are continuously damp. There are various different types of mould—some of which pose a serious health risks it not removed.
WHERE CAN I FIND MOULD IN THE HOME?
Common places in the home where mould can develop include bathrooms, wallpaper, tiles, carpet and ceilings. It is also possible that mould growth can incur within insulation materials and wooden structures.
WHAT ARE THE DANGERS OF MOULD?
Mould produces microscopic particles which can become airborne. These particles can be inhaled by humans and animals—which can cause severe health problems. People with compromised immune systems face an increased risk from mould particles.
The most common symptoms for those affect by mould included, but are not limited to: skin irritation, irritation of the eyes, nose irritation, wheezing an asthma attacks. In more serious cases, people can develop a mould infection with the lungs.
WHO NEEDS A MOULD INSPECTION?
A mould inspection is vital for any person who believes that mould is present within their property. This is especially true if people exposed to the mould suffer from allergies or other related issues.
Mould inspections are common and recommended for home buyers to ensure the property being purchased doesn’t have an ongoing mould problem. Mould can also be a sign of serious issues pertaining to the condition of the property in question—there may for instance be a serious drainage problem or related issues.
WHAT’S INVOLVED IN A MOULD INSPECTION?
Our experienced inspector will come to the property in question and perform a thorough mould inspection to determine the source of the issue. Once the cause has been ascertained using specialised imaging equipment, the inspector will take a sample of the mould to gain further insights. A comprehensive report will then be compiled and advice will be given on the next steps in rectifying the conditions causing the mould and mould remediation options available.
