I started my building career as an apprentice carpenter joiner. From early in my career, I had exposure to high quality, hi-end buildings learning from some of the best in the trade. During my apprenticeship I won awards and was finalist in apprentice of the year, for a couple of years in a row.
At the end of my apprenticeship, I had opportunity to become a trainee foreman for multinational residential/commercial builders. I progressed my career to senior site supervisor in this building sector for 25+ years where I had exposure to residential, commercial, high rise, education, correctional, defence, factories, meat processing and chemistry research facilities.
A lot of these projects were a one-of-a-kind building and were nationally recognised and received multiple awards.
I continued my education gaining my advanced diploma in building and construction. This allowed me to obtain my open builders licence. With my back ground and experience I was regarded as a an all-rounder and always produced the best out of everyone and handed over to clients a quality product.
As part of my role, during construction and prior to handover of a building/premises we go through and look for any issues/faults/defects small or large. I usually was the last point of call all defects were already found/fixed before I went through to ensure everything was done to the correct standard and high finish the properties required. I think having this eye for detail even down to the smallest things meant that when we handed over a project it was finished to the highest of standards. I believe this level of service and detail has always ensured that not only the client but the company I worked for are extremely happy with the final finished product. But I also believe that having been a builder for many different firms meant I got a broad range of experience. It means I have seen where issues can arise down the track and what caused the issue or what could or should have been done at the time to avoid issues arising. Also having had to rectify issues gave me a great understanding in what steps could have been taken now for minor issues to avoid severe issues down the track, but gave me experience in problem solving, and being able to think outside the box.
I am now a proud owner of Jim’s Building Inspections Toowoomba North. Bringing the same enthusiasm, and attention to detail and focusing on customer service. I get great enjoyment and job satisfaction where I have been able to help someone make a decision on purchasing their new property. Whether they be a first home buyer or seasoned home owners who want an honest, reliable, quality report and my attention to detail means my clients can rely that I have let them know of any issues or potential problems that may need to be addressed.
In my spare time I spend on our rural property where we have our dogs and breed cattle. I also volunteer with the local rural fire brigade.
